i) SCHOLARS’ CLUB

– Ndhiwa scholars club was initiated in 2015 as a means of building future human resource for the constituency and the Nation. The scholars club involves identifying ten (10) bright students each year in National Schools from across the constituency and paying forthem school fees of Kshs 50,000/- each year for the four years through high school.
– So far we have forty (40) students who are benefiting though launched in 2015. Forty (40) students from form 1 – 4 were selected with some of the first beneficiaries now out of high school and proceeding to universities. The students selected in 2015 while joining form one (1) are now in form two (2) and have benefited for two consecutive years. They will be supported through all the four years.
– The scholars club also involves mentorship programs which involves the students spending time with the Member of Parliament for sessions. The students are also attached to professionals who guide them through various professional disciplines.

ii) JOINT MOCK EXAMS
– The Ndhiwa NG-CDF in conjunction with ministry of Education supports joint mock exams for primary school candidates in the sub-county, at different time spans to ensure adequate preparation for their final exams.
– We have seen tremendous averages attained since 2014.Ndhiwa schools were ranked 7th(2014) in the county but this year (2016) we moved to position four (4)

iii) SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
– Ndhiwa Constituency has one hundred and sixty two (162) primary schools and fifty six (56) secondary schools. One hundred and twenty(120) of these schools were mud thatched or rusted iron sheets covered, with some students learning under trees.
– We have taken up significant primary school infrastructure upgrade; up to seventy (70) primary schools so far in the past four (4) years across the whole constituency have been improved. We shall endeavor to improve the infrastructure in the coming years. Through NG-CDF we have funded the construction to completion, and finishing of school infrastructures as below;

– The secondary schools lacked basics which included dormitories, administration blocks, and classes among other facilities. This far, the following secondary schools have been made fairly stable with various support as below;

– In the 2015 National Examination results, Ndhiwa secondary schools did not record any case of cheating in the National examination, being the only sub-county in the whole county with no exam irregularities. This was a break, having suffered two consecutive years of exam irregularities.
– The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has together with Boards of Management (BOMs) of schools funded the purchase of school buses for a number of schools including Okok Secondary, Nyamanga mixed Secondary, Magina Girls Secondary and Ojode Pala secondary amongst others.

iv)  TEACHERS’ MOTIVATION

– The Head teachers at primaryschools where pupils perform well get cash incentives every year. While the teachers who teach the examination classes get to be supported through the NG-CDF to further their education.
– We try what we can to improve on teachers motivation

v) SCHOOL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES
– We established in 2015, a school exchange program between Ndhiwa and Kibra Constituencies.
– The pupils from Kibra constituency came to live and stay in Ndhiwa experiencing rural life, whilst participating in school activity. The pupils from Ndhiwa are scheduled to travel to Nairobi to learn on city life as well.
– Through exchange programs, we aim to expose the sub-county pupils and students to other cultures, regions, learning institutions and various backgrounds away from their routine lifestyles and study environments.

vi) MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
– We conduct mentorship programs at secondary school level, where students from Ndhiwa in public universities are facilitated to go back to schools in Ndhiwa for career talks and to motivate the students. The mentorship program was launched in 2014 and has seen Got Kojowi, Rapedhi, Rambusi, Oridi, Ogango, Obera and Gina secondary schools visited among others. So far some of these schools have been visited twice in successive years.
